Kalama
Incorporated in 1871, Kalama, Washington provides a community for those who are looking for a small town feel close to a larger city. Located only 30 miles north of downtown Vancouver, Kalama is a close-knit town that has something for everyone. For the outdoor enthusists, Kalama resides on the Columbia river and offers everything from fishing to wind-surfing. For those who enjoy shopping, the downtown area is home to one of the Northwest's large collections of antique shops.
Holding true to the small town feel, the Kalama School District has only three schools (elementary, middle and high) - but don't let that fool one into thinking that an education is not important to this town. Kalama scored above state average on every test in 2006-2007. Not only is education important to this town, but the extracurricular events are enjoyed by all, not just those participating and their parents. Kalama offers something for everyone. It provides a close-knit community for those who are looking for it, while being close enough to commute to Vancouver for work.
